Luciano Spalletti brushed off claims of a rift between Jonathan David and the Juventus dressing room, responding with a culinary gag in a press conference.

Tuttosport reports that the Canadian forward has found integration difficult since arriving in Turin this summer after his Lille deal ended, adding that the rather solitary 25-year-old is not always included in team dinners.

Asked about the speculation, Spalletti quipped that team-mates had been right to stop inviting him after his first visit, when he grated parmesan over pasta alle vongole, a line that drew laughter.

David, who previously played in Belgium with Gent and in France with Lille, is adapting to a new language and culture in Italy.

He has also learned the hard way about the unwritten Italian taboo on cheese with seafood. At least he appears not to have cut his spaghetti, which would probably have been considered an even bigger affront by team-mates.
