Luis Guilherme, 20, has reached his first European final after Sporting drew 0-0 with Porto to book a place in the Taça de Portugal.
Nosso Palestra reports that it will be only the second final of his career, the first coming with Palmeiras in the 2024 Campeonato Paulista, when they beat Santos. He came on in the second leg at Allianz Parque in a 2-0 win.
He marked qualification with a social-media post after the whistle, calling it his first final for Sporting. He said he was very happy to return in such an important game and that they always fight together.
After a quiet spell at West Ham, the midfielder has rebuilt in Portugal. Since arriving in January he has made 13 appearances and scored once. He returned against Porto after a month out injured, having previously earned a starting place.
Sporting paid around €20 million, including fixed and variable amounts, to sign him from West Ham. In England he played 18 times across a year and a half, without a goal or an assist.
Palmeiras sold Luis Guilherme in June 2024 for €23 million. An academy graduate, he was part of the squads that won the 2023 Brazilian title and the 2024 Paulista.
