Luis "Piti" Murúa has been appointed head coach of Deportivo Portugués, the Comodoro side competing in the city’s top division.
According to SuperDepor.com, his debut is set for Sunday at the José Guerreiro, when Portugués host Petroquímica in the sixth round of the Oficial de Comodoro.
Murúa said he had planned to return to management in July after a demanding season with Club Maronese and time with his daughters in Puerto Madryn, but a call from the Guerreiro family and discussions at home convinced him to take what he regards as a valuable commitment.
He praised the club’s facilities, noting its natural grass pitch and a synthetic surface that allow thorough work, plus a modern gym geared to performance and competitiveness, adding that the progress surprised him.
He will be backed by staff from within the club and might add another member to his team.
Murúa acknowledged the team are in a difficult position and said the first task is to escape the current moment, stressing the emotional side before shaping tactical work once that is achieved.
The Madryn-born coach has led Guillermo Brown, Alianza, Alumni, Germinal, Santamarina, Sol de Mayo, Jorge Newbery de Comodoro, Deportivo Madryn, Ferro de Olavarría, Desamparados de San Juan and Maronese, among others.
