FLW's Luton Town fan pundit issues verdict on the sacking of manager Matt Bloomfield and who should replace him, David Wagner name dropped

For Luton Town, the start of their 2025/26 League One campaign has been nothing short of underwhelming to say the least.
After facing back-to-back relegations from reaching the heights of the Premier League, the Hatters have faced nothing but hardship over the past 18 months.
After 11 games played, Luton currently sit 11th in the third tier with 16 points on the board, an underachievement by their standards after being tipped as one of the sides to win the division prior to a ball even being kicked this season.
With disappointing losses so far this season against Lincoln City and the newly promoted Bradford City, it was announced this morning that the club parted ways with manager Matt Bloomfield after being appointed earlier this year in January.
No one could have predicted Luton Town to face a double relegation. However, now finding themselves in League One, Hatters fans quite rightly have high expectations of their club and so too do the board who want their side to get back to winning ways and have their sights set on earning promotion back to the Championship.
As for who is to replace the outgoing Bloomfield, speaking to Football League World, Luton Town fan pundit Simon Mills is glad that the board have sorted the situation quickly and believes that former Huddersfield and Norwich boss David Wagner would be a good fit for the job.
With five losses in their opening 11 League One fixtures, that was enough for Luton Town to see the back of Bloomfield after being expected to occupy the top few spots for the majority of the season.
In terms of whether Bloomfield should have been given more time, Simon believes that now was the right time to sack their manager and search for his replacement before things get any worse.
Simon said: "I do think that it was definitely the right decision to sack Bloomfield at this time."
"I've got no personal issue with Matt Bloomfield. I think he's a likable guy, but he was the right manager at the wrong time. I didn't see the ship turning around under Bloomfield with the way things have gone this season."
"We're stuck in mid-table, and we should be right up there. Not here. We've already lost more games this season than I personally would be comfortable with, but I wish the man the best, and I'm glad that the board have acted quickly in resolving this because we let Rob Edwards flounder in the job for way too long last year. So it's good to see that some lessons have been learned on that front and that the search for the new manager is now underway."
With Luton Town needing a quick turnaround not only in form but also to find a suitable replacement for Bloomfield, it's another tough test for the Hatters, who face Huddersfield up next at Kenilworth Road in the league.
FLW's Luton Town fan pundit, Simon, has stressed the importance of not rushing into a decision for the sake of time and, instead, must appoint the right manager who is capable of achieving the goals set by the board prior to the season kicking off - David Wagner being a name amongst the list.
"I think probably the best option to replace Bloomfield for us at the minute might be David Wagner. A solid hand, a proven hand. He's been away from the game for a little while."
"I'm not really interested in a fresh new manager who hasn't really had any experience at managing, so that rules out someone like Jack Wilshere, etc."
