Valencia’s push to take Andrés García on loan with an option has cooled after progress through April and much of May, as rival clubs in La Liga and Ligue One move for the Aston Villa right-back.

According to Superdeporte, Unai Emery is prepared to approve a loan, and Lyon, fourth in Ligue One and bound for Champions League qualifying, have made a firm offer. Villa paid around eight million euros in January 2025, and Valencia have not dismissed the deal.

Valencia’s recruitment team, with Corberán’s approval, have pursued that loan, attracted by the former Levante defender’s forward threat. He was among their preferred options by mid-April. More experienced alternatives have since been added.

Thomas Meunier stands out in that bracket. Valencia representatives have contacted the 34-year-old Belgium international, who will play at the 2026 World Cup and has said he will not rush his choice. His Lille contract ends on 30 June, he played 27 matches last season and the French club, also in the Champions League, remains an option.

Meanwhile, Lyon and Alavés, coached by Quique Sánchez Flores, have registered interest in García. Elche are also monitoring despite completing a permanent deal worth four and a half million euros for Buba Sangaré, a long-standing Valencia target.

The 23-year-old Valencian full-back has three years left on his Villa contract. Any move would need to offer the chance to compete and regain the games and minutes that led to the Premier League and a Spain under-21 call-up.
