Lyon have decided to walk away from the negotiating table and end their efforts to sign Pierre Lees-Melou (32) from Ligue 1 rivals Brest, according to a report from L’EquipeLes Gones already had an agreement in place on personal terms with the former Norwich City midfielder, who was enthused at the prospect of playing the Europa League after featuring in the Champions League with Eric Roy’s Ty-Zeffs.

However, Lyon have hit a stumbling block because Brest have rejected their three transfer bids, the last of which reportedly amounted to €5.5m. Given that they can not overspend in any circumstances due to the financial constraints decided by the DNCG, Lyon have thrown in the towel and told Brest and Lees-Melou of their decision to pursue alternative options.

L’Equipe reports that Lyon could now ramp up their pursuit of Liverpool defensive midfielder Tyler Morton. The England youth international is said to be in favour of a move to Les Gones, who are expected to submit a first bid to the Premier League champions.
