Malick Fofana (20) can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Having suffered a serious injury to his right ankle last October that kept him off the pitch for nearly five months, the Belgian finally made his return to action around ten days ago, coming on as a substitute during Olympique Lyonnais’s 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo in the Europa League.
On Monday, the Rhône-based club announced in a statement that the former La Gantoise player had undergone a “minor surgical procedure” as part of his rehabilitation programme to remove the equipment that had been fitted during his operation.
Although no return date has yet been announced, this is good news for the Aalst-born player, whose return to the pitch was eagerly awaited by the fans, who are now dreaming of finishing in the top four of Ligue 1 and returning to the Champions League, which OL have not contested since the 2019–20 season.
Currently fourth in the league, Paulo Fonseca’s men trail third-placed Olympique de Marseille by two points and remain within striking distance of Lille OSC, who are fifth on level points, AS Monaco (-1) and Stade Rennais (-3).
