Arsenal suffered a devastating 2-1 defeat to Manchester City yesterday, losing more ground in their bid to clinch the Premier League title.

The Gunners are three points ahead of City, but their title rivals have a game in hand.

Arsenal need to be perfect between now and the end of this season to stave off City and claim their first league title in 22 years.

They will rue the game against City as it could have gone either way. Gabriel Magalhaes and Eberechi Eze hit the post.

Despite his goal, Kai Havertz also missed two excellent chances that could have changed things.

Unfortunately, it was not to be as several Arsenal players failed to step up to the occasion, including Noni Madueke.

The England international had a pretty ineffective showing before Mikel Arteta replaced him at half-time with the more adventurous Gabriel Martinelli.

Madueke was genuinely disappointing, completing only ten out of 15 passes (67% accuracy).

He lost four out of seven duels, was dribbled past twice, recorded no accurate crosses, and lost possession 11 times.

The Arsenal wide man has made a habit of dribbling into blind alleys, and it was a theme in his game at the Etihad Stadium.

One national publication reckoned his performance was ‘really poor’ and gave him a 5.5 rating for a shambolic showing.

Selling Madueke has to be one of the top priorities for sporting director Andrea Berta. He has not shown the level of quality his £52 million transfer fee demands.

With Bukayo Saka struggling for most of the season, Madueke had the perfect opportunity to establish himself as a key player for the Gunners.

However, two goals and an assist in 22 Premier League appearances is a disappointing return, and he has shown no signs of improvement.

Arsenal must ditch him this summer in favour of a more productive forward who can raise the bar.
