Maldini and Pioli ‘could reunite’ at Fenerbahce if Safi wins | OneFootball

Paolo Maldini is in confirmed talks with Fenerbahce, and a potential reunion in Istanbul with coach Stefano Pioli has been floated.

La Repubblica suggests Maldini would look to bring Pioli with him, so the pair could work together again at the Istanbul club.

Fenerbahce presidential candidate Hakan Safi has met Maldini several times, first in Italy then in Türkiye, to discuss him becoming director of sport. Any appointment remains hypothetical and depends on Safi winning the election. Maldini would also be a powerful figure in the campaign.

Pioli coached Milan from 2019 to 2024. Since then he has worked for Al-Nassr and very briefly at Fiorentina, where he was sacked after 14 competitive games this season.

The pair have strong ties. Among the reasons for Maldini’s 2023 exit from Milan was his insistence the club should not dismiss Pioli.
