Premier League heavyweights Manchester City have early this week been advised to sanction a move for a long-time member of the first-team ranks at Barcelona.
The player in question? Marc-André ter Stegen.
Goalkeeper Ter Stegen is of course widely expected to be on the move before the summer is out.
As much comes with the German international set to be demoted , potentially, to a third-placed role in Hansi Flick’s Barca squad.
The Blaugrana have already landed a new shot-stopper in Joan García this summer, with Wojciech Szczęsny expected to stay put to battle for game-time, too.
And though Ter Stegen has to date remained unwavering in his stance that he will be going nowhere, the 33-year-old looks set to be left with little choice.
A number of clubs, in turn, have already been tipped as potential landing spots for Ter Stegen.
And as alluded to above, early this week, one such club have been assured that they would be signing a player capable of acting as their new no.1 for ‘the next three or four years’.
Speaking during an interview with Sky Germany this week, German icon Lothar Matthäus was drawn on the situation of his fellow countryman at the Camp Nou.
And Matthäus, in quotes relaid by Diario Sport, went on to suggest Ter Stegen’s signing to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City:
“I don’t know what Manchester City are planning, but I don’t think they’re very happy with Ederson. I think Ter Stegen could definitely be a goalkeeper for the Citizens for the next three or four years.”
