Man City are reportedly in the final stages of agreeing a deal for Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo and beating Liverpool to the player’s signature in the January transfer window.
The forward has a release clause of £65m that can be activated in the first 10 days of the upcoming January transfer window, which opens on Thursday.
That has created a lot of interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest club following his strong start to the campaign. The 25-year-old has scored three goals and provided three assists in 18 top-flight games this term.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were interested in the player, but the Blues have pulled out of the race while Spurs have moved onto other targets, leaving City and Liverpool as the two leading contenders for his signature.
City have emerged as the likely winners after engaging in talks with Bournemouth over the 24 hours.
According to Sky Sports News, City are “closing in on a full agreement” to sign Semenyo from the Cherries with talks now at an “advanced stage”.
The two clubs are sorting the “final details” of his £65 million release clause, while City are also “close to finalising personal terms with the winger”.
The report adds that “no other club [is] expected to intervene” at this stage and his release clause is believed to be active from 1 January until 10 January.
