Norwegian was on target as City swept Dortmund aside in midweek Champions League clash
The Manchester City striker was on the scoresheet once again in his side’s 4-1 win over former club Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in midweek, powering home a second.
The strike took the Norwegian’s tally for the campaign up to 18 goals in 14 games across all competitions.
The 25-year-old smashed another stat with his goal against Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, becoming the first player to score in five consecutive Champions League games for three different clubs.
He had done so with RB Salzburg back in the 2019-20 season, in 2020-21 with Dortmund, and this term, with City.
It is a feat that not even Cristiano Ronaldo has been able to achieve, with the Portuguese playing for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United (twice), Real Madrid, and Juventus in Europe’s top competition.
Haaland has netted 54 times in 52 Champions League games, and he is chasing down Ronaldo’s record of 140 goals.
He is two off Ruud van Nistelrooy on 56, and he has his sights set on Thomas Muller (57) and Kylian Mbappe (60).
Lionel Messi sits second in the all-time list with 129 in 163, and Robert Lewandowski’s 105 in 135 appearances puts the Pole third.
Former Real Madrid strikers Karim Benzema and Raul complete the top five with 90 and 71 goals respectively.
Up next for Haaland in the Champions League is a home tie against Bayer Leverkusen, before a trip to the Bernabeu in December.
City round off the league phase with an Arctic Circle expedition to Bodo/Glimt in January and homecoming for Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane, who return to the Etihad Stadium with Galatasaray.
