Key striker was absent entirely from the matchday squad on Sunday

Manchester City are still sweating over the fitness of Erling Haaland as they prepare to take on bogey team Tottenham.

The striker was on the bench against Real Madrid but did not come on, with Pep Guardiola admitted afterwards that it was “impossible” for him to play. Haaland was missing entirely from the matchday squad on Sunday as City lost 2-0 at home to Liverpool.

City are now looking to a trip to Tottenham to face a team who they lost 4-0 to earlier this season and regularly come up short in the Premier League.

They will also be without John Stones, who may require surgery on a thigh injury, but Kevin De Bruyne was fit enough to start against Liverpool after shaking off a fitness concern of his own.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Manchester City injuries.

Erling Haaland

The striker was left out of the squad to face Liverpool after failing to come through training on Saturday, meaning he is a doubt for the trip to Tottenham on Wednesday.

Guardiola said on Friday that Haaland was set for a fitness test on Saturday, adding: "It is better to have him on the pitch than not have him. We're in the position we're in right now. Everyone is responsible for good and bad things. With Erling we're stronger."

That fitness test came and Haaland “didn’t feel good” afterwards, according to his manager. Asked by Sky Sports if Haaland could face Spurs, Guardiola said: “I hope so!

"During these nine years we played many seasons without really important players and we survived. This season, we have had a lot of injuries and we could not survive, but in specific games we have to do it."

Potential return date: Unknown

John Stones

The centre-back may not be seen for a while after limping off against Real Madrid in midweek.

Stones was under little pressure when attempting a pass in the opening minutes of the Champions League play-off clash, and appeared to pull a muscle. He required on-pitch treatment before being withdrawn.

Speaking ahead of the loss to Liverpool, Pep Guardiola confirmed Stones may require surgery.

"He is injured,” Guardiola told reporters. “It's a difficult one. In the next days, we will know if he needs surgery or not.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Manuel Akanji

Fellow defender Manuel Akanji has been ruled out for at least two months after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury.

Akanji was forced off during the first leg of City’s play-off tie against Real Madrid.

The centre-back went under the knife on February 15 and Guardiola confirmed the player will be out for “eight to 10 weeks.”

That sets his comeback at, most likely, early May.

Potential return date: May 2025

Oscar Bobb

Much was expected of Oscar Bobb this season after a promising pre-season, only to suffer a broken leg on the eve of the season.

Bobb returned to training in January but has still not made a matchday squad as he continues to work on his physical conditioning.

Potential return date: Unknown

Rodri

Rodri’s injury is seen as one of the major causes for City’s slide this season. The midfielder underwent surgery on a serious knee injury suffered against Arsenal in September and isn’t expected to feature again this season.

The Spanish international has previously suggested he could return for this summer’s Club World Cup but Guardiola has insisted there is “no pressure” on him to rush his comeback.

At this stage, next season seems the most likely return date.

Potential return date: Summer 2025
