Two of Pep Guardiola’s summer signings remain sidelined

Man City received some positive injury news as they drew 1-1 with Arsenal at the Emirates.

It was not the result Pep Guardiola was after as his side visited to the capital, but he will be comforted somewhat by the returns of Rodri and John Stones to the side.

The Spaniard had been considered a doubt after feeling discomfort in his knee in midweek, but he rallied to complete 90 minutes. Stones, meanwhile, made a long-awaited return from a muscle issue to make a brief cameo late on.

The only drawback in terms of fitness came late on, as 20-year-old Nico O’Reilly ended an impressive defensive performance by hobbling off with a knock.

Here’s all the latest Man City injury news...

Omar Marmoush

City’s Egyptian winger was an unfortunate victim of the September international break.

He picked up a knee ligament injury mere minutes into a goalless draw with Burkina Faso, and was pictured post-match wearing a knee brace and walking with crutches.

He is yet to return to training, but Guardiola told reporters ahead of the Manchester derby that he would be back soon enough.

He said: "A few weeks, I think, before the next international break he will be ready."

Potential return date: October 5, 2025 vs Brentford (A)

Rayan Cherki

It has been a frustrating start to life in sky blue for summer signing Rayan Cherki.

He was ruled out for an extended period of time with a thigh injury after scoring on his Premier League debut.

Speaking in late August, Guardiola said: “He’s out for two months. Seven or eight weeks.”

Potential return date: November 1, 2025 vs Bournemouth (H)

Nico O’Reilly

Nico O’Reilly was withdrawn in the second half of Sunday’s draw against Arsenal after producing another remarkably composed defensive performance for City.

He limped off after receiving treatment, having been subject to a heavy tackle. The issue did not appear serious, though Guardiola provided no update as to his condition.

Potential return date: September 24, 2025 vs Huddersfield (A)

Rayan Ait-Nouri

Former Wolves man Rayan Ait-Nouri joins his namesake, Cherki, in the ranks of summer signings who suffered an injury shortly after moving to City.

He picked up a knock during the international break, but little information has been made public about his condition.

Potential return date: Unknown

Mateo Kovacic

Mateo Kovacic has not featured for club or country since undergoing surgery on an Achilles injury before the Club World Cup.

Asked to provide an update on his condition in pre-season, Guardiola said: “We have three [defensive midfielders], I would say, with Kova injured until September or October - hopefully earlier.”

Potential return date: October 2025
