Nottingham Forest star finally gets his big move after months of speculation

Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, but the transfer is not yet complete.

City have been pursuing Anderson for several weeks and seen multiple offers rejected by Forest, but their latest improved bid, sent on Thursday, has been deemed satisfactory.

Per reports from The Athletic, Forest have accepted the latest bid, thought to be worth as much as £130million. The Midlands club had hoped to bring in a fee greater than the £125m Liverpool spent to sign Alexander Isak last season. Previous offers rejected by Forest had been valued at £106m and £120m.

There is one box left to check, though, as the player is yet to agree personal terms with City. This last step and related formalities may not be completed until after the World Cup.

He is due to undergo a medical on Friday in New York City, though, The Athletic adds.

Anderson has plied his trade at Forest since leaving Newcastle in 2023, since making 92 appearances. He played every Premier League match for them this season.

His performances over the past two seasons have earned him a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, and he has started both of England’s group stage matches so far. He is expected to keep his place for Saturday’s meeting with Panama.

It remains to be seen who will be brought in as Anderson’s replacement, but reports suggest Tottenham wantaway Lucas Bergvall could be an option.

Man City, who beat off competition from cross-town rivals Manchester United to sign Anderson, remain without a confirmed managerial appointment after Pep Guardiola’s departure, with pre-season due to get underway in the coming weeks. They are, however, expected to appoint ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

The club are also known to be interested in Chelsea full-back Malo Gusto, who could be available this summer as the Blues get ready to complete a move for Marco Palestra.
