Manchester United have announced that goalkeeper Dermot Mee has put pen to paper on a new contract.
United are on track to undergo a goalkeeping overhaul this summer. Andre Onana is set to return to Trabzonspor for another loan spell.
The Cameroonian spent the entire 2025/26 campaign on loan at the Turkish Super Lig outfit. It’s believed that he was keen on staying at United and fighting for his place but chances would have been at a premium, following the heroics of Senne Lammens.
Lammens, who joined United from Royal Antwerp last summer, has cemented his status as United’s undisputed starter.
Altay Bayindir looks set to exit Old Trafford this summer after a three-year stint that failed to yield a first-team breakthrough. Then-manager Ruben Amorim gave Bayindir a run of starts at the start of the season but he made multiple high-profile mistakes, which prompted United to dip into the market for Lammens.
Bayindir is said to be attracting interest from Besiktas and Fenerbahce.
Then there is Radek Vitek, who impressed on loan at Bristol City. The Czech Republic youth international made 41 Championship appearances, keeping 12 clean sheets in that period.
A report covered by The Peoples Person last month relayed that Hull City and Coventry City are some of the clubs keeping close tabs on Vitek.
If all three move on, United will almost certainly need to recruit a goalkeeper, and quite possibly two, just to make sure Michael Carrick has enough cover in that department.
United have released a statement confirming that Mee is set to remain at Old Trafford.
An official club communication reads, “Dermot Mee has signed a new two-year contract at Manchester United.”
“The Academy graduate will continue to provide excellent support and competition for the goalkeeper group.”
“Mee has been with the club since the age of 11 and has also gained valuable experience from a wide variety of loan moves. The impressive 23-year-old is continuing to develop with this latest contract renewal a further reward for his contributions.”
“Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Dermot on his new deal.”
United have been linked with a swoop for Karl Darlow and wonderkid goalkeeper Kit Margetson.
