Man United fan group release statement in response to controversial club decision

The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust have released a statement in response to Manchester United’s decision to hike ticket prices.

On Friday, United announced that they have increased season ticket prices for the fourth year in a row.

United stated that they had made the decision after holding discussions with representatives on the Fans’ Advisory Board and wider supporter groups.

The Red Devils’ decision was motivated by a need to generate more revenue and help the club in their ambitions to challenge both on the domestic and European fronts.

In real terms, the increase works out at just over £2 per game on average for adult season ticket holders, and roughly £1 per game for under-16s.

For next season, the lowest-priced adult season ticket at Old Trafford comes in at £646. That equates to £34 for each of the 19 league fixtures. When United hiked ticket prices last year, it sparked fury among fans and triggered protests, with anger directed squarely at co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family.

MUST released a statement, labelling United’s latest move as “disappointing.”

Fan group responds

MUST’s statement reads [via Daily Mail journalist Nathan Salt], “It is disappointing that the club has ignored our call, as part of the FSA’s league-wide campaign, for a ticket price freeze.”

“Supporters are paying more and more to watch their team, and as the FSA campaign said: enough is enough.”

“We’ve also learned that 600 more loyal fans are being moved for ever more hospitality.”

“Those people will be understandably furious, and need to be better treated by the club than those who went through the same thing last year were.”

“That said, we are pleased the club listened to some of our concerns and there are no further restrictions on season ticket holders forwarding their tickets and no increase in the minimum usage rules.”
