Manchester United have given Marcus Rashford the green light to travel to Spain and seal a season-long loan move to Barcelona.
Rashford has been on the hunt for a new club since his loan spell with Aston Villa ended, following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
He joined Villa in January after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim. However, despite enjoying an uptick in form under Unai Emery, the Birmingham outfit opted not to exercise the option to make his stay a permanent one.
Rashford has since been on the market and has been linked to several clubs, but Barcelona have always been his preferred transfer destination. He wanted to move to the Blaugrana in January but the Catalan giant’s poor financial shape made a move impossible to get over the line.
However, Barca maintained their interest in Rashford and on Saturday, it emerged that they had struck an agreement in principle for Rashford to complete a switch to the Camp Nou for the entirety of the upcoming campaign.
Barcelona will pay all of Rashford’s wages during the duration of his stay with them.
Now, Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic has confirmed that United have allowed Rashford to jet off to Spain and officially sign for Barca.
According to Whitwell, “Marcus Rashford is on his way to Barcelona after an agreement was reached with Manchester United for a season-long loan.”
“United have given Rashford permission to fly to the Catalan capital to start the next chapter of his career, with the deal including an option to buy. Rashford had targeted Barcelona as his ideal destination when it became clear he would leave United in January, and that ambition is now being realised.”
It’s understood that Rashford has already spoken to Hansi Flick.
Fabrizio Romano has corroborated Whitwell’s information, writing on X, “Barcelona have sealed all the documents of Rashford deal, set to land in Spain.”
“Understand Barça will pay €14m gross as salary coverage plus bonuses linked to appearances.”
“Marcus takes 15% pay cut and Man Utd will not cover his salary. €30m buy option for June 2026.”
Rashford is set to become Barcelona’s third summer signing after goalkeeper Joan Garcia and winger Roony Bardghji.
