Manchester United are reportedly exploring a move for Napoli midfielder Eljif Elmas as the club continues to assess options for strengthening its midfield ahead of the summer transfer window. According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, the Red Devils have expressed interest in the North Macedonia international, who has enjoyed a productive return to Napoli this season.

Elmas is back at the Italian club following a loan spell from RB Leipzig last summer.

Napoli reportedly hold an option to make the deal permanent for around £14 million, but speculation suggests the Serie A side could subsequently consider selling the midfielder for a higher fee if significant interest arrives.

Elmas has been impressive for Napoli on his return

Elmas initially made his name at Napoli after joining from Fenerbahçe earlier in his career, earning praise for his work rate and technical ability.

After moving to RB Leipzig, he returned to Naples in September 2025 on loan and quickly re-established himself as a valuable member of the squad.

During the current campaign, Elmas has made 36 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and three assists while delivering consistent performances in midfield.

Although originally expected to operate primarily in an advanced attacking role, injuries within Napoli’s squad have forced manager Antonio Conte to deploy him in several different positions.

His adaptability has proven crucial. Elmas has featured as a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder, and occasionally on both wings when the team required tactical adjustments.
