Rasmus Hojlund Determined to Fight for Manchester United Future Amid Transfer Talk

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has insisted he intends to remain at Old Trafford and prove his worth, despite growing speculation over his future. The Danish striker was on target during United’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series, producing a confident performance that underlined his potential ahead of the new campaign.

His goal arrived just hours after reports linked RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko with a possible move to United, fuelling questions about Hojlund’s position in the squad. The 21-year-old, however, was clear in his post-match message, reiterating his desire to compete and earn his place.

“Nothing so far. I think the most important (thing) for me is just to keep working hard and stay focused and then obviously we’ll see what happens,” Hojlund said. “I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.”

Support from Amorim Despite Recent Struggles

Ruben Amorim, who oversaw Hojlund’s difficult 2023/24 season, praised the striker’s display against Bournemouth, stating that Hojlund’s contribution “made the team play better”. The manager’s comments come at a pivotal time for the forward, who had been previously linked with a move to AC Milan earlier in the window, according to reports in Italy.

Despite last season’s inconsistent form, Hojlund remains optimistic. His attitude, combined with Amorim’s backing, points to a player still very much part of United’s plans, even as the club explores options in the transfer market.

United Remain Active in Pursuit of Attacking Options

While Hojlund is committed to competing for his place, Manchester United are pushing ahead with efforts to strengthen their forward line. The club have already secured the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo, both of whom are capable of leading the attack.

In addition to interest in Sesko, United have opened talks with Aston Villa over Ollie Watkins and are also keeping tabs on Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson. Regardless of Hojlund’s intentions, the recruitment of another striker appears to be a priority.

Hojlund Embraces Challenge of Internal Competition

Hojlund is unfazed by the increased competition for places. The striker believes a stronger squad will only elevate the team’s performance, and has welcomed the challenge ahead.

“Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me,” he said. “I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp so I’m welcoming everything that comes. I think it’s good with competition and it only sharpens the team.

“Obviously it was a tough season on us all and I think I should have done better, I think everybody knows [that].

“But I think also it’s a team thing, that we’re going to be better now. I think we’ve shown now in these two games that we’re progressing in the right way and looking forward to what’s coming.”

With the Premier League season fast approaching, Hojlund’s mentality and recent form suggest he is determined to take the next step in his Manchester United career, even with the shadow of potential new arrivals looming.
