Manchester United have identified Nicolas Jackson as a target after the Blues reached a final decision on the 24-year-old striker’s future, according to a new report.

A Versatile Forward

The Red Devils are targeting reinforcements all over the pitch this summer as INEOS look to build on the progress of a promising, but chaotic, season.

A revamp of the midfield is the club’s priority, with two new options expected to arrive to overhaul the stalling engine room.

However, United are also interested in upgrading the defence and frontline – with Manchester World revealing a “versatile forward” is high on the agenda at Old Trafford.

Benjamin Sesko endured a slow start to life after the 22-year-old striker’s £74 million switch from RB Leipzig. But the Slovenia international has burst to life over the winter period and left the club’s hierarchy impressed with his work ethic off the pitch.

Joshua Zirkzee‘s future is much more perilous, however, with the sinking Dutchman‘s dismal form in front of goal continuing into his second season.

He was linked with a return to Italy in January – an avenue expected to be explored again at the end of the season.

If Zirkzee departs, United will target a new frontman as a complement to Sesko and the other attackers, rather than a like-for-like competitor for the 6’5″ Slovenian – which explains the links to Jackson, a well-rounded forward who is capable of playing through the middle, out wide or as a second striker.

Hello Mr Jackson

Caught Offside reveals United are “monitoring” Jackson’s situation as the Senegal international is currently on loan at Bayern Munich.

But the Bundesliga giants have zero intentionos making his stay in Bavaria a permanent one. He is expected to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Hpwever, Chelsea are understood to have decided upon a permanent exit this summer as the decision in the “best interests of all parties”. The west London club have already signed two new forwards – Joao Pedro and Liam Delap – last summer before sending Jackson to Germany.

Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also in the hunt for the 24-year-old, who has scored five goals for Bayern with limited opportunities, while Spanish heavyweight  Atletico Madrid have expressed interest.

If United could strike a cut-price deal for a player with Premier League experience and excellent underlying metrics, it could prove a hidden gem of a signing – with the ineffective Zirkzee leaving to make room being the cherry on top.
