Sporting CP midfielder Pedro Goncalves could come into the equation at Manchester United next summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The new Red Devils manager admires the 26-year-old, who replaced Bruno Fernandes following his move to the Old Trafford club in 2020, dubbing him a ‘great player’ who can play for any team in the world.
Amorim also claimed he could take him anywhere, and a reunion at Man United next summer cannot be ruled out.
Goncalves has five goals and six assists in 12 games this term after ending last season with 18 goals and 17 assists in 49 games, and his creativity in the final third is something Man United need.
The Portugal international can play as a left winger and behind the striker, and having him alongside Fernandes in the team can take the Red Devils to the next level.
Holding on to the ball, playing key passes, crossing, taking set-pieces, playing through balls, and his brilliant finishing from direct free-kicks are some of his key strengths.
However, landing Goncalves will not come easy given his £67 million release clause, and whether Man United will be keen on splashing the cash next summer remains to be seen.
Members of the club’s leadership committee must also be convinced that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers star fits into the plans, given that there are players with a similar profile and playing style at the club already.
The Portuguese failed to impress in the Premier League in 2018-19 but has since grown in leaps and bounds under Amorim and could be desperate to return to England to prove himself.
