Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee could be on his way back to Italy this summer after an underwhelming campaign at M16.
The former Bologna star signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2024 on a deal worth £37.5 million. However, his collaboration with his competitor Erik ten Hag only lasted for a few months, as the latter was sacked in October.

The Dutchman then had to prove himself under Ruben Amorim, who was initially unconvinced. While his first campaign was filled with highs and lows, at least Zirkzee endeared himself to the Old Trafford faithful, who appreciated his work ethic and slick touch.
Unlike the previous campaign, the Bayern Munich academy product had very limited chances in 2025/26, as he found himself at the bottom of the attacking pecking order following the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko.
Zirkzee was already tipped to make his return to Italian football, with several clubs vying for his services, but Carrick was keen to keep him as a squad option.
Nevertheless, the situation could change in the summer, as the 25-year-old could finally push his way out of Carrington in the hopes of putting his playing career back on the right track.

According to Tuttosport, Zirkzee’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, is working on finding the striker a new home and has already offered his services to Roma and Juventus.
The Giallorossi had already tried to acquire him in January, before eventually settling on Aston Villa’s Donyell Malen. However, the Italian capital side has booked its place in the Champions League, so they will need more quality reinforcements.
On the other hand, Juventus have settled for a Europa League spot after a disappointing sixth-place finish, but they still intend to bolster their attacking department. Nevertheless, Tottenham loanee Randal Kolo Muani is considered their priority target.
At the age of 25, a player of Zirkzee’s calibre is expected to play regularly, if not as an automatic starter. Unfortunately for the Dutchman, a prominent role at Man Utd appears unlikely at this stage.
If the former Bologna man decides to stay, he will most probably earn more minutes than this season, especially with the club back in the Champions League, and hoping to go beyond the opening round in the domestic cups.
And yet, this might not be enough to convince Zirkzee to prolong his time at United.
All in all, a departure could be in the best interests of all parties, as the Dutch striker can challenge for a starting role elsewhere, while MUFC should bring in a replacement endorsed by Michael Carrick, whether an out-and-out centre-forward to compete with Sesko, or a versatile forward who can occupy various roles.
