Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Ederson from Atalanta, with a permanent deal worth approximately €45 million understood to have been agreed between the two clubs, according to Goal.com and Sky Sport Italia.

The Brazilian, who had been one of Serie A’s standout midfielders for four and a half seasons across spells at Salernitana and Atalanta, will leave Italian football on a permanent basis.

His contract with Atalanta had been due to expire in 2027, making this summer the optimal moment for the Bergamo club to cash in.

Atletico Madrid miss out as United’s Champions League return proves decisive in Ederson chase

The deal represents a significant victory for United in what had been a competitive pursuit, with reports via Goal.com.

Atletico Madrid had been considered frontrunners for much of the process after agreeing personal terms with the player, but ultimately fell short of Atalanta’s valuation, leaving the door open for United to accelerate.

The club’s return to the Champions League under manager Michael Carrick is understood to have been a decisive factor in convincing both Atalanta and Ederson to favour Old Trafford.

For Atalanta, the sale continues what has been an exceptional era of player trading under the Percassi family’s stewardship. The €45 million fee represents a strong return on the €23 million they paid Salernitana for the midfielder in 2022.
