Man Utd attacker Matheus Cunha is a doubt to face Everton in the Premier League on Monday following an unexpected update from a surprise source.
The Brazil international missed a Christmas lights event in Altrincham after suffering a knock in training on Saturday.
Cunha, who has scored one goal since joining the Red Devils from Wolves for £62.5 million, was expected to start against the Toffees at Old Trafford, but now may not feature in the match.
Fears over his availability were sparked by a surprise source after it was revealed why the 26-year-old missed Altrincham’s ‘Neon Noel’ Christmas lights switch-on event.
In a social media post, Visit Altrincham said: “Unfortunately Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight’s Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons.”
However, Sky Sports News report that “the issue is understood to be a minor one”, which will come as a relief to manager Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese coach has already been dealt a blow to his frontline after striker Benjamin Sesko was ruled out for several weeks with a knee injury.
Harry Maguire will also miss the Everton game, while Kobbie Mainoo was due to train on Saturday after recovering from a knock.
“He’s going to stay a few weeks out. I don’t know how long,” the Man Utd boss said of Sesko on Friday.
“It’s not that serious. We have to be careful. He’s feeling better, in a few weeks I expect to have Ben.
“[Harry] Maguire is not ready, Kobbie [Mainoo] didn’t train today but maybe tomorrow. We’ll see.”
