We looked at three clubs who should target a potential loan deal for Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer.
Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer looks set to be allowed to depart the club on loan this summer, and that could put a number of Championship sides on alert.
Collyer joined Manchester United from Brighton & Hove Albion in March 2022, and after progressing through the club's academy, he made his senior debut when he came on as a substitute against local rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield last August.
The 21-year-old was included in the matchday squad on a regular basis last season, but his mintues were limited in a dismal campaign that saw the Red Devils finish 15th in the Premier League table and suffer defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Collyer is currently with the United squad on their pre-season tour of the United States, but he revealed that he is set to hold talks with head coach Ruben Amorim and the club's hierarchy about whether to remain at Old Trafford or head out on loan this summer.
With a loan move potentially on the cards for Collyer, we looked at three Championship clubs who should have him on their radar.
Derby County only secured Championship survival on the final day of last season, but they will be optimistic that a much better campaign could be ahead under the guidance of head coach John Eustace.
The Rams have brought in seven new signings this summer, with Richard O'Donnell, Danny Batth, Owen Beck, David Ozoh, Andreas Weimann, Carlton Morris and Patrick Agyemang all arriving at Pride Park, but it seems Eustace is keen to bolster his squad even further, particularly in midfield.
Derby are said to be hoping to bring Everton midfielder Harrison Armstrong back to the club for a second loan spell this summer, and they have also been linked with Liverpool's James McConnell, which shows that Eustace is looking to bring in a younger midfield option to help lower the age of what remains a relatively old squad.
Given that the Rams face strong competition for both Armstrong and McConnell, they could decide to turn their attention to Collyer, and there would be few better managers for the United youngster to work under for the season than Eustace.
After a disappointing 13th-placed finish last term, Norwich City are another club who will be aiming to climb the table next season, and there has been a change of manager at Carrow Road this summer, with Liam Manning making the move from Bristol City to replace Johannes Hoff Thorup.
The Canaries have made a host of signings this summer, including Vladan Kovacevic, Jacov Medic, Harry Darling, Jeffrey Schlupp, Papa Amadou Diallo and Mathias Kvistgaarden, but there could be further new arrivals at Carrow Road before the end of the transfer window.
Norwich have been pursuing Silkeborg midfielder Pelle Mattsson in recent weeks, but they are reportedly considering walking away from talks if they cannot agree a deal in the coming days, while they have also been linked with Mirko Topic, who plays for Portuguese top flight side Famalicao.
However, the Canaries are believed to face strong competition for Topic's signature, and having already spent significant fees this summer on the likes of Medic, Diallo and Kvistgaarden, they may be reluctant to splash too much more cash on Serbian international.
Norwich made excellent use of the loan market last season when they signed Jacob Wright from Manchester City, and the 19-year-old has completed a permanent move to Norfolk this summer for a fee of £2.3 million, so they should now consider raiding the red side of the city for Collyer, who would be a more cost-effective signing than Topic, while potentially still adding plenty of quality to the midfield.
It was a frustrating end to last season for Sheffield United as they missed out on automatic promotion before suffering further heartbreak as they were beaten 2-1 by Sunderland in the play-off final at Wembley.
After disagreements over the club's new data-driven transfer policy, the Blades controversially parted company with popular manager Chris Wilder last month, and they appear to be heading in a fresh direction under new head coach Ruben Selles.
All four of United's summer signings - Mihail Polendakov, Tyler Bindon, Ehiji Ukaki and Louie Barry - are aged 22 or under, so Collyer could fit perfectly into Selles' new and exciting young team.
With Ollie Arblaster expected to miss the start of the season as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury, the Blades are in need of midfield reinforcements before the end of the window, particularly after Vini Souza joined Wolfsburg for a fee of €15 million (£12.8 million).
Collyer would likely be guaranteed a regular place in United's starting line-up, at least for the opening months of the season until Arblaster returns, and he would no doubt benefit hugely from working under Selles, who developed plenty of young players during his time as Reading manager.
