Celtic pulled three points out of the bag in a tough encounter against an in-form Falkirk side, and Martin O’Neill paid tribute to John McGlynn’s side following the 90 minutes of action.

The home side created a fistful of chances, but unfortunate finishing and a gloveful of saves from Kasper Schmeichel ensured that Benjamin Nygren’s headed goal from a corner just before the break was the only goal of the game.

The Irishman said: “Delighted to win the game obviously, we didn’t play too well in the match.

“It was a struggle for long periods I must admit. I thought that Falkirk did very well in the game, but even so, we can play much better

“It’s a wee bit strange we’ve gone from playing brilliantly on Saturday to struggling tonight.

"But there’s lots of things for us to improve on that particular performance, and, tonight, winning was the most important thing.”
