Phil Foden Signs New Man City Contract Until 2030 as Enzo Maresca Era Begins

Manchester City have moved decisively to secure one of their own, with Phil Foden signing a new four-year deal that keeps him at the Etihad until 2030. For a player shaped by the club, polished in its academy and trusted on the biggest stage, it feels like a statement of intent before a new chapter under Enzo Maresca.

Foden is now 26 and had been entering the final year of his previous agreement. Rather than allow any uncertainty to drift into the new campaign, City have tied down a homegrown talent who remains central to their future plans. It also underlines Maresca’s belief in a player he already knows well from their time together during the Treble-winning 2022-23 season.

Foden said: “Committing my future to City means everything to me. Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt,” and added: “It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.”

Phil Foden and Manchester City Future

The deal comes after a period where Foden’s role has evolved. Once the bright attacking spark posting explosive numbers, he has found himself asked to adapt. City’s attacking shape has changed, with more natural width around Erling Haaland and creative responsibility often shared elsewhere. That has seen Foden drop into deeper areas more regularly, affecting both his scoring return and his final-ball output.

Last season he managed seven Premier League goals and five assists in 33 appearances. The season before brought seven goals and two assists in 28 league games. Those figures sit below the remarkable standards he set when he delivered 27 goals and 12 assists in the campaign after the Treble.

Enzo Maresca Reunites with Key City Star

There is a sense this renewal is about more than contract length. It is about faith, timing and a reset. Foden knows Maresca, Maresca knows Foden, and that familiarity could be crucial as City reshape under a new voice in the dugout.

Foden said: “I can’t wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with.”

His numbers may have dipped and his omission from Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad was a sharp reminder of how quickly football moves, but City have clearly judged the bigger picture. Foden has made 369 appearances, won six Premier League titles, a Champions League and two FA Cups. Manchester City are backing class, pedigree and belonging, and they believe Phil Foden’s best story in sky blue is still being written.
