Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Italy international will replace Ederson, who is set to leave for Fenerbahce in a deal worth around €14 million.
City moved quickly once Ederson’s exit became clear, finalising terms with PSG on deadline day (h/t journalist Fabrizio Romano).
Donnarumma will sign a long-term contract and is expected to undergo a medical in Manchester later today.
The 26-year-old becomes the latest addition in a summer of significant changes under manager Pep Guardiola.
City had already signed James Trafford from Burnley in July, and the arrival of Donnarumma will add competition for the number one spot.
Ederson leaves after eight successful years, keeping 168 clean sheets in 372 appearances.
He won six Premier League titles and played a key role in City’s Champions League triumph in 2023.
Donnarumma arrives with a different profile, renowned as a world-class shot-stopper but less comfortable with the ball at his feet.
That contrast may lead Guardiola to adjust how City build out from defence in the new campaign.
Donnarumma joined PSG in 2021 after coming through the ranks at AC Milan. He has played 161 times for the French champions, keeping 56 clean sheets.
He featured in 47 matches across all competitions last term, helping PSG reach the Club World Cup final.
Donnarumma also produced a decisive performance in the Champions League, saving two penalties against Liverpool in the round of 16.
Despite his importance, PSG opted to pursue a ‘different goalkeeping profile’ this summer, signing Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
Luis Enrique omitted Donnarumma from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup earlier this month, signalling the end of his time in Paris.
Donnarumma has made 74 appearances for Italy since debuting as a teenager in 2017.
His signing continues City’s rebuild, with Guardiola overseeing sweeping changes across his squad since January.
