While the Manchester City squad and Pep Guardiola are continuing their chase for honors on multiple fronts, Hugo Viana will be working away in the background, making plans for the upcoming summer transfer window. Viana will have a list of transfer targets that he will attempt to bring to the Etihad to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad. A midfielder will likely be high on Manchester City’s summer wish list. Question marks surround the future of Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva. A new report indicates that Manchester City are tracking Nottingham Forest midfielders Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White. Looking at the pair, a summer City move for Elliot Anderson seems to make more sense than City moving for Morgan Gibbs-White.

It is hard to see City moving for both of Anderson and Gibbs-White, so a City move for Elliot Anderson makes sense.

It doesn’t come as a big surprise to see that Manchester City are reportedly tracking both Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson. Either player, or both, would be strong additions to Pep Guardiola’s squad. But looking at what move seems more realistic, it would seem that a City move for Elliot Anderson looms as a more realistic summer move for Manchester City.

If, as expected, Bernardo Silva and possibly Mateo Kovacic leave City next summer, there will be a need for a player like Elliot Anderson in Manchester City’s midfield. Anderson isn’t a like-for-like replacement for Bernardo Silva. That type of player doesn’t exist. But if Bernardo were to leave City this summer, Anderson looms as a player who could step into that particular void. Anderson is an all-action midfielder who thrives in a duel and has a vast array of passing. Elliot Anderson also has the ability to get up and down the pitch exceptionally well, which is becoming a key attribute in the Premier League. Anderson looms as the type of midfielder that Manchester City may need next summer.

In the case of Morgan Gibbs-White, it is hard to where he’d fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad. Gibbs-White can play as a number-eight, or as an attacking midfielder. The City squad is stacked with this type of player. Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden and Tijjani Reijnders are already in the City squad. There just doesn’t seem to be a role for Morgan Gibbs-White in the City squad.

Manchester City are reportedly tracking Nottingham Forest’s England internationals in Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson. On closer inspection, only a City move for Elliot Anderson makes sense and it won’t be a surprise to see City go big to sign Anderson in the summer transfer window.
