Manchester City officials have identified two alternative targets on their transfer shortlist to Tino Livramento this summer as their search for a right-back continues.

After securing the arrivals of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki to bolster Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, a new right-back is understood to hold priority for Manchester City bosses in what remains of the summer transfer window.

Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan, 18, has also been brought in on a long-term contract but is expected to go out on loan for the 2025-26 campaign to progress his development wth regular first-team football opportunities elsewhere.

Hugo Viana has not wasted any time since replacing Txiki Begiristain as Manchester City’s director of football, marking his arrival with a string of stellar signings and a parting of ways with Kevin De Bruyne, Scott Carson and Kyle Walker.

After addressing the club’s long-standing issues at left-back, Manchester City are believed to be keen on bringing in a potent, long-term replacement for Walker, who fell out of favour with Guardiola midway through the 2024-25 campaign and found exile at AC Milan in January.

The 35-year-old is now off Manchester City’s books after joining Burnley on a two-year deal that could fetch his former side around £5 million if conditions are met, having returned from Italy at the end of the season with no intention from AC Milan to sign Walker on a permanent basis.

Manchester City expressed interest in Newcastle and England right-back Valentino Livramento earlier in the transfer window, though Magpies boss Eddie Howe is desperate to keep hold of the 22-year-old, who has three years left on his current deal at St. James’ Park.

Talks with Newcastle reportedly met an impasse in recent months as Viana and co now deliberate over returning to the negotiating table for Livramento – as Manchester City monitor alternative right-back options having spent over £120 million already this summer.

According to the information of TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, Manchester City have made a fresh move for Livramento, although Newcastle remain intent on not allowing the London-born defender to leave this summer.

It is claimed that Manchester City would be willing to pay in excess of £50 million for Livramento this summer, while Newcastle have approached the player’s camp with a view to extending his contract and increasing his wages to make him one of their higher earners.

Elsewhere, it is suggested that City remain interested in Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso and Nicolo Savona as alternatives to Livramento, while they were also offered Denzel Dumfries but opted not to progress with a deal despite a £20 million release clause that expired in mid-July.

It remains to be seen how the remainder of the transfer window shapes up for Manchester City and their pursuit of a new right-back, with Rico Lewis, Matheus Nunes and Abdukodir Khusanov having collectively covered the position in the second half of the recent campaign – following Walker’s abrupt mid-season loan exit to AC Milan.
