Manchester City midfielder Rodri’s name has once again entered the conversation surrounding Real Madrid.
The Spain captain and one of the most influential midfielders in world football was recently mentioned by presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme during multiple interviews.
What began as the suggestion that “a player like Rodri would play for Madrid” if he won the election quickly evolved into a much stronger claim: “If I become Real Madrid president, Rodri will play for Real Madrid.”
Amidst all this, AS reports that Rodri is completely ignoring all the noise surrounding his name being linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Instead, Rodri is currently focused entirely on the upcoming World Cup, where he hopes to lead Spain in their pursuit of another world title.
After a demanding period of rehabilitation following the injury that sidelined him for much of last season, the midfielder has worked hard to regain peak fitness and is concentrating solely on international football for the time being.
The Manchester City star remains under contract until 2027 and has no intention of discussing either a contract extension with City or a move elsewhere until after the World Cup has concluded.
While Rodri has previously acknowledged that transfer speculation is a normal part of modern football, any serious discussions about his future are currently on hold.

Riquelme’s comments appear to have been more about presenting his vision for a future Real Madrid than reflecting any concrete agreement.
The candidate has outlined a project centred around increasing the number of Spanish players in the squad, with Rodri identified as a key figure in that plan. For such a move to become reality, several major obstacles would first need to be overcome.
For starters, Riquelme would have to win the presidential election, convince Rodri that a move is the right step for his career, and negotiate an agreement with Manchester City, who would have to be willing to sell one of their most important players.
That said, Rodri’s name continues to surface for understandable footballing reasons.
Real Madrid need to strengthen their midfield, and few players in world football offer the combination of leadership, intelligence, technical quality and experience that the Spanish international brings.
However, for now, Rodri remains focused on Spain, leaving questions about his club future for another day.
