One of the biggest blows to Manchester City’s season was losing Rodri to an ACL injury. City’s midfield general suffered the injury during his team’s 2-all draw with Arsenal in September. As it stands currently, Rodri is still recovering from the injury. But in a new interview, the Ballon d’Or winner is determined to return to the level he was at before injury struck. Based on the determination Rodri has shown throughout his career you would have to be brave to bet against him succeeding in that goal.

In an interview with Joe Bray for Manchester Evening News, Rodri explained that his primary goal is to recover from his ACL injury. On top of that, he is also determined to return to the level he was at before injury struck. Rodri explained: “Right now, my obsession is to recover well. I think that when someone has a long-term injury, what they want is to give their body the opportunity to get well again and, above all, to get back to their level. That’s it, it’s being well, it’s not having any problems.

Rodri further explained: “First of all, I want to recover and come back in good shape; then, try to get back to the level I left at; and finally, of course, keep winning. I’m not afraid [of not reaching the same levels again]. I know the player I am. I know that these kinds of injuries are not the same as they were 30 years ago. Also, the medical team has given me infinite peace of mind in that sense, that I shouldn’t worry, that I can come back without anything that will hinder me.”

Manchester City’s most important player has a goal in mind, and that is not a surprise.

It is no surprise to see that Rodri is determined to return to the Ballon d’Or winning level that he had reached before injury struck. His determination has been a key attribute in his game. It has helped him scale the heights he has in football. Based on his comments on his recovery from the ACL injury he suffered it is also helping him in recovery and rehabilitation from the injury.

First and foremost it is more important for Rodri to return when he is healthy. That is the biggest priority. Manchester City will want this most important player back when he is ready. But it will also be no surprise to see him eventually return to he level he was at before injury hit. That’s Rodri’s goal and the hope is he can achieve it.
