In a recent post on X, journalist Shaun Connolly claimed that Manchester United are confident about recruiting West Ham United ace Mateus Fernandes. It has been revealed that the Red Devils are willing to be patient to strike a deal for the Portuguese talent in this transfer window.
Fernandes was responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays for the Hammers at the centre of the park. The 21-year-old made 36 league appearances for West Ham last season, finding the back of the net three times and earning four assists in the process across multiple competitions.
The Portuguese sensation is currently one of the most gifted young midfielders in the Premier League. Therefore, it is no wonder that the Red Devils are eyeing a move to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams this off-season.
His current contract at the London Stadium will run out in the summer of 2030. Hence, Man United have got no choice but to meet West Ham’s demands for their prized asset in this transfer period.

Fernandes is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and is a decent dribbler as well.
The Portuguese sensation can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third. Fernandes is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a holding midfielder or play in the number ten position if told to do so. He is already quite familiar with Premier League football and won’t take much time to settle into life at Old Trafford.
We can expect Fernandes to bring more energy and dynamism to Man United boss Michael Carrick’s midfield. He is good enough to compete for regular first-team football at the Theatre of Dreams next season.
At 21, Fernandes has got a bright future ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for the Red Devils to consider in the long run. With all things considered, Carrick would be wise to go for the Portuguese midfield ace in this summer transfer window.
