Manchester United are in talks with Tom Heaton over handing him another one-year extension to his deal, according to The Athletic.
The Man United goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of the season, but the Red Devils want him to remain at Old Trafford beyond this term.
Heaton has not made a first-team appearance this season, with his last competitive game coming in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest in 2023.
However, the 39-year-old Englishman is a valued member of the Man United senior squad due to his eagerness to work with other goalkeepers.
Former Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim named Heaton among the six players who formed the club’s leadership group.
The veteran goalie is in charge of dressing room affairs along with Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui.
Man United have been impressed by his impact and would love to extend his deal again, as they have done at the end of every season since he joined.
Heaton has largely been a training goalkeeper with the Red Devils since joining them as a free agent in 2021, upon his return to Old Trafford after 11 years.
He has been behind Senne Lammens and Altay Bayindir in the pecking order, but continues to provide valuable experience at Carrington and could remain at the club.
The club could be in the market for a new goalkeeper as Bayindir is expected to leave Man United at the end of the season, and holding on to Heaton makes sense.
