Manchester United are keen on a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes after pulling out of a deal for Ederson, according to Brazilian outlet GE Globo.

The Red Devils agreed a deal with Atalanta for Ederson, but are not expected to complete a move for him after recent medical tests flagged up an issue.

Man United are now moving on to other targets and could look to sign Gomes alongside Chelsea’s Andrey Santos.

The Wolves star came close to joining Atletico Madrid in a €45 million deal, but the move fell through and other suitors are looking to sign him.

Liverpool are also monitoring the 25-year-old, but Man United are long-term admirers and he could be open to a move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Gomes’ former Wolves teammate and fellow Brazil international Matheus Cunha believes the ‘unbelievable‘ midfielder could be a solid addition to any side, claiming he reminds him of Casemiro.

The Red Devils need someone in the mould of the former Real Madrid star in the middle of the park after his performance in the second half of last term.

Gomes has proven his quality over the last three-and-a-half seasons in the Premier League despite failing to help keep Wolves up last term.

He is an excellent tackler and workaholic on the pitch, and Man United manager Michael Carrick could do with such a midfielder within his ranks.

Gomes has proven what he can do in the Premier League and could prove to be a steal for around €45m.
