Manchester United are in advanced discussions to finalise another season-long loan deal with Trabzonspor for goalkeeper Andre Onana.

According to The Daily Mail, an agreement is nearing completion, with both parties eager to strike a deal to keep the 30-year-old Cameroonian international in the Super Lig for the 2026/27 campaign.

Onana originally made the temporary switch to Trabzonspor in September 2025 after his only Man United appearance last season, a shock EFL Cup exit to Grimsby Town.

Having been dropped from the first-team picture at Old Trafford, the former Inter Milan shot-stopper enjoyed a decent spell in Turkey, registering 33 senior appearances across all competitions and winning the Turkish Cup.

Another factor driving Onana’s prolonged exile from Old Trafford is the rise of Belgian international Senne Lammens. Since arriving from Royal Antwerp, Lammens has locked down the starting spot and was named the Premier League Transfer of the Season for his stellar performances.

With new manager Michael Carrick keen to continue with Lammens as his first choice, United’s recruitment department is focused on pursuing veteran back-ups such as Angus Gunn and Karl Darlow.

Financially, another loan arrangement for Onana represents a compromise for all parties. While Manchester United would ideally prefer a sale to recoup a portion of the £47.2 million they paid in 2023, Onana’s salary has deterred several suitors seeking a permanent deal.

Trabzonspor will continue covering the entirety of the player’s wage packet. With Onana’s contract at Old Trafford running until June 2028, a return to the Medical Park Arena allows him to preserve his competitive edge in an environment where he feels valued.

Trabzonspor recently parted ways with club icon Ugurcan Cakir, so keeping Onana as their established No. 1 remains a high priority.
