According to a report from Foot Mercato, Manchester United tried to secure a last-minute move for Lyon’s Malick Fofana (20). However, with the clock running out, the Premier League club were forced to abandon their move for the Belgium international attacker on deadline day.
Fofana was the subject of lots of interest in the summer transfer window. Liverpool and Bayern Munich were long-linked with a potential move for the 20-year-old, and Nottingham Forest and Everton submitted formal offers for the OL attacker, only for him to reject their advances. The former Gent attacker had his heart set on joining an ambitious project in Europe.
United targeted a move for the forward during the final two days of the window after Alejandro Garnacho left to join Chelsea, and Matheus Cunha picked up an injury during their match against Burnley. The Belgian was interested in joining the Old Trafford club, but never received a signal from his father that a move was possible.
