Arsenal academy striker Chido Martin Obi decided to join Manchester United over the summer, rejecting a contract offer from the Gunners, but his situation has been up in the air for the last couple of months.

After Martin Obi agreed to the move in late July and held his medical in early August, he then had to wait for the two clubs to come to terms.

Unlike with senior players, clubs are due compensation for academy players even if the player reaches the end of their contract. Martin Obi’s deal with Arsenal was up, but United still have to pay up for his transfer.

In order to avoid a tribunal, Arsenal and United have been negotiating a fair compensation payment, and it seems they’ve now reached a resolution.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Martin Obi’s move has now received Premier League approval, with the five-step process for his transfer complete.

The player was informed by United management about the league’s approval of his move on Friday night, and it should be official soon.

16-year-old Martin Obi was the Arsenal u18s’ top scorer in 2023/24, with 32 goals. He also made five appearances for the u19s and u21s, though he didn’t find the net in those cameos.
