Manchester United have earmarked Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers as Bruno Fernandes’ long-term successor, according to the Telegraph.

United will be powerless to stop Fernandes from exiting the club this summer if any of his suitors meet his €65 million release clause and he is willing to leave.

His release clause is active until the first half of July, but qualifying for next season’s Champions League and giving him assurances over their ambitions will improve their chances of keeping him.

The 31-year-old has a contract with the Red Devils until the end of next season, but there is an option to extend it by another year until June 2028.

His Man United future remains shrouded in uncertainty, but a move for Rogers could be on the cards even if Fernandes signs a new deal.

The Red Devils are also looking to strengthen on the left this summer, and the Villa star also plays there.

The 23-year-old England international has bagged nine goals and five assists in 35 league games this term after ending last season with eight goals and ten assists in 37 league matches.

A move to Man United could appeal to Rogers, who reportedly has an understanding with bosses at the Midlands club that this summer is probably the right time to part ways.

Villa could be open to selling him, even if they qualify for the Champions League and also win the Europa League.

UEFA fined them last summer for breaching their financial rules, and major sales could be needed this summer to balance the books.
