Manchester United have held fresh talks over a deal to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa.
Watkins is on the club’s shortlist of centre-forward options as Ruben Amorim looks to complete a new-look forward line. After securing deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United want to next sign a number nine.
Watkins is an option under consideration, given his proven track record of goals in the Premier League. Arsenal failed with an approach to sign the 29-year-old in January, with Villa demanding a fee of £60m.
That asking price has not dropped with Villa in a healthier PSR position following the sale of their women’s team.
The England international scored 16 goals in the Premier League last season, adding eight assists. However, he found himself in and out of the side during the second half of the campaign, following the loan arrival of Marcus Rashford.
Journalist Ben Jacobs is reporting that Manchester United have held fresh talks over a deal for Watkins, but consider the current asking price too high. The Red Devils are prepared to ‘advance’ if Villa show a willingness to compromise on their demands.
Unai Emery is also unwilling to sell until a replacement has been found. Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson is a player of interest to The Villans, having worked with Emery at former club Villarreal.
Chelsea are not actively looking to sell Jackson but will consider significant bids, following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap at Stamford Bridge.
