United could step up interest in Sporting hitman as Amorim seeks new signings
Manchester United have been told how much they will need to pay to sign Viktor Gyokeres in January.
Ruben Amorim has made it clear he wants reinforcements this month and it had been widely reported that United will step up interest in Sporting hitman Gyokeres.
Gyokeres has become one of the hottest talents in European football after starring for Sporting, where he flourished under Amorim before his move to Old Trafford in November.
Amorim has reportedly told United bosses that he cannot wait until the summer to sign Gyokeres and wants him now, as he seeks to add a world-class finisher to his frontline.

United first need to offload some of their first-team squad to raise funds but both Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee could leave in the coming weeks, which would free up space in the squad.
Rashford had said he “wants a new challenge” and Zirkzee is being strongly linked with a move to Juventus and a reunion with his former Bologna manager Thiago Motta.
Gyokeres has an £80million release clause in his contract and the Daily Star report that Sporting president Frederico Varandas would hold United to the full amount if they want to sign the 26-year-old Sweden striker mid-season.
If there is a mad scramble to sign Gyokeres, United would be one of the favourites to land him because of his close relationship with Amorim from their time together at Sporting.
Any move for Gyokeres, who has scored 26 goals in 24 appearances for club and country this season, will have to be sanctioned by United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers.
