Manchester United have made unwanted history following the club’s goalless draw at Aston Villa.

Erik ten Hag’s team extended their winless run to five games in all competitions and the latest was record-breaking for all the wrong reasons.

The stalemate at Villa Park means Manchester United have now taken just eight points from their first seven fixtures, their lowest tally of the Premier League era and lowest since the 1989/90 season.

It makes for bad reading for the under-pressure Ten Hag, who has broken his own unwanted record set last season. Last term, United earned nine points from their first seven games, their then-lowest of the Premier League era alongside the 2019/20 campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The last time the Red Devils took only eight points from their first seven games the club went on to finish the campaign 13th in the top-flight table.

If there is to be a silver lining for Ten Hag, it’s that the manager in charge was a certain Sir Alex Ferguson. United salvaged their season with FA Cup success, earning the under-fire Ferguson a stay of execution. Things turned out pretty well from that point onwards…
