Manchester United are interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, as per reports.

INEOS have so far put much of their focus on strengthening United’s attacking options, having secured Matheus Cunha’s services.

The Red Devils have also convinced Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo to join the project, and a new striker seems to be next on their agenda. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have approached Sporting CP over signing Viktor Gyokeres.

The absence of European football has harmed United’s transfer budget and if they manage to bring in all three attackers, Ruben Amorim could be forced to rely on major sales or look for cheaper signings to address other areas of the pitch.

The side’s midfield was a huge concern this season. Manuel Ugarte has so far failed to live up to expectations, Kobbie Mainoo is yet to find his best position in Amorim’s system, and Casemiro, 33, isn’t getting any younger. Amid this, United have set their sights on a potential bargain deal.

During his interview with The United Stand, journalist Ben Jacobs (via UtdXclusive) revealed that Ndidi is on United’s radar.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder signed a new three-year deal with the Foxes last summer. However, his contract includes a £9 million relegation release clause.

With Leicester now set to play in the Championship, the escape clause is valid this summer, making the Nigerian a “good value for money” for several clubs.

Apart from United, the likes of Everton and Al Ahli are also monitoring his situation at the King Power Stadium.

Once a highly-rated prospect, the ex-Genk midfielder is known for his strong tackles and tactical intelligence. He is also fairly good with the ball at his feet. He registered five assists in the Premier League this term.

However, Ndidi has struggled to deliver on a consistent basis and is unlikely to be a starter at Old Trafford. But as a squad player, he could prove to be a very shrewd addition. Jacobs adds that at the moment, nothing is advanced with any particular club.

United are likely to consider such options seriously towards the end of the transfer window when they will have a better picture of Amorim’s squad for the new campaign.
