Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation is not ideal with current No 1 Andre Onana and backup keeper Altay Bayindir both struggling for form.

The Cameroonian was culpable for both goals conceded against Olympique Lyonnais in the Europa League quarter-final first leg while the Turk’s mispass allowed Newcastle to score their fourth in the subsequent Premier League encounter.

Ruben Amorim is far from impressed with the former Inter Milan man while the ex-Fenerbahce star is eyeing regular minutes and is hopeful of earning a move back home.

The head coach will be desperate to add quality between the sticks and as per CaughtOffside, the Red Devils have the perfect chance to add to their armoury once the window opens.

Maignan contract talks have stalled

AC Milan have been trying to get Mike Maignan to agree a new contract with his current deal expiring in 2026. But so far, contract talks have stalled.

Which is why the Rossoneri are reluctantly open to the possibility of letting the Frenchman leave with multiple English clubs chasing his signature.

The Serie A giants are looking to earn around €40 million from his sale with Chelsea and Aston Villa ready to compete with the 20-time English league champions to land the France international.

“Sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Man Utd and Chelsea are both long-term admirers of Maignan, and are both in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

United ready to take advantage

“Aston Villa could also be one to watch in the race for Maignan’s signature, with the France international possibly set to be available for around €40m.

“Even though Milan would rather not sell Maignan, CaughtOffside understands they are now increasingly open to letting him leave for the right price as talks over a new contract for him have stalled.”

His form this season has not been up to his usual standards with Maignan keeping 12 clean sheets in all competitions this season while last term, he had kept 15 clean-sheets.

United are monitoring multiple names and it will be intriguing to see who they ultimately land. The transfer budget is expected to decide who will be Onana’s eventual successor.
