Bees will receive an initial £65m paid in instalments, plus a potential further £6m in add-ons for Cameroon forward

The two clubs have been locked in talks since last month after Mbeumo expressed a desire to move to Old Trafford.

United had seen two opening bids rejected, but their third offer has now been accepted by Brentford.

The latest approach is understood to be worth an initial £65m, which will be paid in instalments. The deal could rise by a further £6m due to add-ons.

Standard Sport understands that around £1.5m of the add-ons are based on the number of appearances Mbeumo makes for United, with the majority related to the team’s success in winning major trophies.

The fee is a club-record sale for Brentford, surpassing Ivan Toney’s £40m move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli last year.

The Bees were reluctant to lose Mbeumo, but they will be pleased by the fact that they have banked more than the £62.5m United paid Wolves to sign Matheus Cunha earlier this summer.

Brentford will now turn their attentions to signing a replacement for Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season.

The club are interested in Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson, for whom they failed with an initial approach at the start of this week.

Brentford met the winger’s £35m relegation clause on Tuesday but failed to satisfy the required structure of the terms, with Ipswich rebuffing multiple approaches.

The clause, which expired earlier this week, required one up-front payment, but Brentford offered to pay it in three separate instalments.

Ipswich have no intention to sell a player they bought for a fee in excess of £20m last summer, so the club would have to turn a sizeable profit if they were to sanction a move, looking towards the £40m mark.

Having already sold striker Liam Delap to Chelsea for £30m this summer, Ipswich don’t need to offload Hutchinson, but could be forced into doing so as he wants to play in the Premier League.

Hutchinson is also keen on a move back to London, having spent his formative years at Arsenal and Chelsea, and believes Brentford is the next best step in his development.
