Manchester United to make up to 240 employees redundant after cost review

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is cutting Manchester United staff to ease costs on the football club.

The new co-owner has gone on record many times to stress his belief that Manchester United have no spent money wisely in recent years.

That gave us all an early impression that changes were coming and we’ve now seen that in most departments at the club.

According to the Daily Mail, United are set to make almost a quarter of its workforce redundant.

At a series of meetings early on Wednesday, staff received the news that up to 250 of the club’s 1,100 employees will lose their jobs.

However, none of the redundancies will impact the Manchester United Foundation.

This will come as devastating news to many of those people, but it’s a decision Ratcliffe feels necessary to get the biggest football club in England operating as it should.

There has also been whispers of increasing ticket pricing, which is something we as fans are concerned about.

Mike Keegan of the Mail reports: “Compliance with the Premier League’s controversial Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules is also understood to have played a part.”

In comparison to other Premier League clubs, Liverpool have 1,005 employees, Chelsea 788, Tottenham 719, Arsenal 649 and Man City 520, according to each club’s latest figures.

Perhaps the previous structure at United was too bloated…
