Sunderland are keeping a close watch on Jobe Bellingham’s future, with a 15 per cent sell-on clause meaning any move could deliver a fresh financial boost.

According to TEAMtalk, the midfielder has re-emerged on Manchester United’s radar ahead of the summer window, with United monitoring several midfield targets and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Atalanta’s Ederson among the leading options.

Bellingham left Sunderland for Borussia Dortmund last summer in a deal reportedly worth £27.8 million plus £4.2 million in add-ons, a record sum for a newly promoted Premier League club. He signed a five-year contract after playing a major part in the Black Cats’ promotion.

If Sunderland’s 15 per cent clause is calculated on the full fee, it would equate to £3 million at £20 million, £3.75 million at £25 million, £4.5 million at £30 million, £5.25 million at £35 million, £6 million at £40 million, £7.5 million at £50 million and £9 million at £60 million. If it applies only to profit, the payout would be lower and depend on Dortmund’s sale price.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also credited with tracking Bellingham’s progress, an interest dating back to his Birmingham City days.

The 20-year-old has started 18 of Dortmund’s last 20 matches under Niko Kovac, with 31 Bundesliga appearances in his first campaign and 48 outings, one goal, in all competitions. His Sunderland spell brought 90 appearances, 11 goals and promotion.
