Manchester United to take on Man City for Argentine attacking prodigy Maher Carrizo | OneFootball

Following Manchester United’s disastrous defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday, there are doubts about how much INEOS can reinforce the squad in the summer.

The Red Devils were banking on the added income qualifying for the Champions League would bring. But now that is out of the question, and INEOS will be reliant on player sales to prop up what is expected to be a relatively small budget.

Matheus Cunha is expected to take away a large chunk of it, following which a striker will be targeted. It remains to be seen if the club can get Liam Delap to agree to come now that there will not be any Champions League football on offer.

The co-owners could be forced to focus on potential after that, instead of proven performers and there has been recent links with Franco Mastantuono of River Plate.

Maher Carrizo on United’s radar

He is not the only Argentine on United’s radar with Velez Digital claiming the 20-time English league champions are also eyeing Maher Carrizo of Velez Sarsfield.

The 19-year-old mainly plays as a centre-forward but has been used extensively as an attacking midfielder and wide forward this season.

And despite his relatively young age, he already has 32 appearances for the Velez senior team and this season, he netted seven times from 18 starts across all competitions.

Pep Guardiola is reportedly a fan and he wants Manchester City to win the race for his signature, but United intend to beat them in the race.

Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton are also following the Argentina U20 international who has a release clause in the region of €16 million.

City also want Maher Carrizo

“City is closely monitoring Maher Carrizo and has already met with his representatives. Vélez is waiting for a formal offer: if it is convincing, it could migrate in this market.

“Has a contract until 12/31/26 and a clause of € 16M. Arsenal, United, Wolverhampton and Southampton also follow him,” the report stated.

Carrizo is known for his pace, impressive dribbling abilities, and finishing ability and would be quite the addition given his huge potential.

INEOS have already shown they can beat anyone if they want with Real Madrid left behind the dust as Leny Yoro arrived at Old Trafford while Arsenal failed to hold on to Ayden Heaven.
