Manchester United have identified Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as a top candidate to replace Ruben Amorim, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.

United sacked Amorim today after 14 months in charge and have put Under-18s head coach Darren Fletcher in interim charge.

The Red Devils are likely to wait until the end of the season before making a permanent managerial appointment, and Glasner appeals to them.

However, the 51-year-old Austrian is not the only one on their radar, with Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca also in the mix.

Glasner remains top of their managerial wishlist at the Old Trafford club following his impressive job at Palace.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to leave, and joining Man United could appeal to him.

He helped the Eagles win the FA Cup last year and is pushing to win the Europa Conference League this season.

Glasner won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 and could be the one to take the Red Devils to the next level after seasons of underwhelming performances since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.

While he also plays with a back-three, the Austrian is always willing to adapt to get results.

He has proven himself in the Premier League as Palace have largely punched above their weight since his arrival.

Fletcher will oversee the team for the time being, but will need to impress to keep the job until the summer.

The Red Devils are in sixth place after 20 games, level on points with fifth-place Chelsea. There are only three points between them and fourth-place Liverpool.
